Henry is a quality control inspector. He is watching the production line for Barb's Raisin Cookie. Henry will reject a cookie with less than 8 raisins. In the past, one out of every 100 cookies had less than 8 raisins. Find the probability that the first cookie Henry rejects is the 5th cookie on the line.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Let X be random varaible of no of cookies passed before rejecting 1st coockie with less than 8 rains ,on the production line by Henry

X~Geometric (P)

As in past henry rejected one out of every 100 cookies which had  less than 8 rains

p=0.01

X~ Geo (P=0.01)

pmf of X is

As first cookie Henry rejects is 5th coockies on line.It means 4 cokies passed before rejecting 1st coockies with less than 8 rains

hence probability that 1st coockies Henry rejects is 5th coockies on line is

P(X=4) =0.0096------------------------------ans

A production process is checked periodically by a quality control inspector. The inspector selects simple random samples of 90 finished production and computes the sample mean product weights bar. If results over a long period of time show that 5% of bar values are more than 8.5 pounds and 5% are less than 7.5 pounds, what are the mean and standard deviation for the population of production produced within the process? It may help to sketch the standard normal curve.

The quality-control inspector of a production plant will reject a batch of syringes if two or more are found in a random sample of 10 syringes taken from the batch. Suppose the batch contains 5% defective syringes. (a) Find the mean? (b) What is the expected number of defective syringes the inspector will find? (c) What is the probability that the batch will be accepted? (d) Find the standard deviation. Round to three decimal places.
