Can you please tell me how to solve for these answers using my TI-83 plus calculator? Thank you!

You are conducting a study to see if the accuracy rate for fingerprint identification is significantly more than 0.65. You use a significance level of α=0.005α=0.005.

      H0:p=0.65H0:p=0.65
      H1:p>0.65H1:p>0.65

You obtain a sample of size n=123n=123 in which there are 89 successes.

What is the test statistic for this sample? (Report answer accurate to three decimal places.)
test statistic =

What is the p-value for this sample? (Report answer accurate to four decimal places.)
p-value =

The p-value is...

  • less than (or equal to) αα
  • greater than αα

This test statistic leads to a decision to...

  • reject the null
  • accept the null
  • fail to reject the null

As such, the final conclusion is that...

  • There is sufficient evidence to warrant rejection of the claim that the accuracy rate for fingerprint identification is more than 0.65.
  • There is not sufficient evidence to warrant rejection of the claim that the accuracy rate for fingerprint identification is more than 0.65.
  • The sample data support the claim that the accuracy rate for fingerprint identification is more than 0.65.
  • There is not sufficient sample evidence to support the claim that the accuracy rate for fingerprint identification is more than 0.65.

Answer #2

We have given: x = 89 , n = 123 , = 0.005

Hypothesis:

H0: P = 0.65 vs H1: P > 0.65

For doing this test in Ti-83 calculator, please follow the steps.

1) Press STAT -----------> select TESTS

2) In TESTS, there is 5th option 1-PropZTest click on that.

3) Put the required values, so we get -

P0: 0.65

x : 89

n : 123

Prop: > P0

and click on Calculate button.

Hence we get -

Test statistic = 1.711

P value = 0.0436

The p-value is greater than α

This test statistic leads to a decision to fail to reject the null

As such, the final conclusion is that...

  • There is sufficient evidence to warrant rejection of the claim that the accuracy rate for fingerprint identification is more than 0.65.

Hope this will help you. Thank you :)
