  1. You are interested in whether taking a statistics course influence people’s reasoning skill. You gave reasoning skill measure to 50 students taking statistics course at the beginning of the semester, then at the end of the semester you gave another reasoning skill measure. The reasoning skill measures are in interval scale. What analysis you should perform to address your question.

Answer #1

Here, the reasoning skills are measured two times one at the beginning of the course and the one at the end of the semester on the same student. Hence, it is a case of paired measurements. The measurements are done on an interval scale. It is also reasonable to assume that the scores are approximately Normal and are independent of each other.

If the statistics course is effective, then we are expected to get higher scores after the course. Hence, I shall perform a paired t-test on the difference in scores using the difference end score-pre score. To be effective, this difference has to be positive. We shall be testing the Null hypothesis

Statistics I – First Analysis Project You are part of a research team that is studying academic motivation in high school students. A question has arisen regarding the strength of the relationship between academic motivation and achievement. Some members of the team believe there is a strong positive relationship between academic motivation and achievement, while others don’t think the two variables are related much, if at all. To provide some information relevant to this discussion, a small study was designed....

Out of the possible N=10,538 students who meet the criteria for participation, 200 men were randomly selected by computer to participate. After having the participants sign the informed consent, the researchers randomly assigned these subjects into 4...
