A baby biscuit company states that the average age of its
production is 2000 hours. Because many complaints from consumers
who state that the company made a statement is not true and its age
is less than 2000 hours. Furthermore, consumer organizations
conduct research on these baby biscuits with a sample of 36 and use
α = 0.05
The study resulted in an average age of samples = 1900 hours with a
standard deviation of 50 hours. What conclusions are generated by
consumer institutions regarding the rejection?
Given that, sample size (n) = 36
sample mean = 1900 hours and
sample standard deviation (s) = 50 hours.
The null and alternative hypotheses are,
H0 : μ = 2000 hours
Ha : μ < 2000 hours
Test statistic is,
=> Test statistic = -12
p-value = P(t < -12) = 0.0000
Since, p-value = 0.0000 is less than α = 0.05, we reject the null hypothesis (H0).
Conclusion : There is sufficient evidence to conclude that, the average age of baby biscuit company is less than 2000 hours.
