When would median be a better measure of central tendency? Please give an example.

Suppose we have a open class frequency distribution , i.e the lower class is (<0) and highest class is ( > 50) .

Note that in these type of data ,we cannot calculate the mean because we cannot find the mid value of these two classes . Here comes the Median in rescue. Because it does not take into account the values of all classes but the median class.

Another example is when there are two many or too extreme outliers in the data , Mean would be very misleading measure of central tendency .Again Median in the rescue.
