Answer #1

Sol:

parameter -- numerical summary for population

statistics--numerical summary for sample

Example: Internet sites report that about 13% of Americans are left-handed. Is this true for students at your
university? During a statistics exam, the instructor walks around the room and counts 15 left-handed students
out of 98 students in the class.

Parameter =13% of the population assumed to be left handed

so denote p=0.13

statistic-15/98 =15% of the sample is left handed

so sample proportion=p^=0.15

If the sample is given and describes about sample it is statistic
