Identify two types of variables and four scales of measurement. How they are related with each other? What is the difference between variables and constants? Why do we need to study variables instead of constants in statistics?
The two types of variables are i) Qualitative variable and ii) Quantitative variable
The four scales of measurements are i) Nominal ii) Ordinal iii) Interval iv) Ratio
Relation -
A constant is fixed and it does not change it values whereas variable changes with time or depending on the scenario. ex -The price of 5 kg of rice from 2005 to 2019 changes and hence the price of rice is variable. The height of Eiffel tower is constant.
Statistics intends to find a new pattern and predict something valid depending on data. There is nothing to learn about something that is constant, fixed. It is the variable that becomes important for doing research and predictions.
