Prevalence Rate measures the existing cases of the diseases in a population during a specific period of time.

In short duration diseases incidence rate is increases but Prevalence rate is decreases.

In long duration cases prevelence rate increases and incidence rate decreases.

Also in incidence rate , there is a notion of dynamic that is absent in prevalence rate.

In prospective studies incidence rate is high and prevalence rate is low

In Cross sectional studies prevalence rate is high and incidence rate is low
