QUESTION 19

  1. I am going to give you several situations. Your job is to indicate which test would be appropriate for each situation. You are NOT to solve any of the questions - only indicate the appropriate test or interval. You may use an answer more than once.

          -       a.       b.       c.       d.       e.

Surgeons would like to know if inhaling supplemental oxygen for 10 minutes before a surgery will help them operate for longer without taking a break. Some received oxygen, but others (randomly assigned) were given just normal air. Test results showed that the surgeons who breathed oxygen were able to operate for 4 hours on average before taking a break, while those who breathed normal air operated for an average of 3.5 hours. Which procedure should we use to see if there is evidence that breathing extra oxygen can help surgeons operate longer?

          -       a.       b.       c.       d.       e.

          -       a.       b.       c.       d.       e.

A soda company wants to know the mean volume of soda dispensed into each can. It takes a random sample of 232 cans.

    a.

    Mean of Differences T-Test

    b.

    1-Sample T-Test

    c.

    Difference of Means T-Test

    d.

Answer #1

1)

Since here some have given supplement oxygen while some not and we have to test that there is significant difference in operating time before taking break between two groups.

So here are different peoples given different condition so we can't use paired t test so we will use here

c) difference of mean T test

2.

Here we have to test there is  a significant difference in the mean math scores on the pre- and post-test for Unit 5 so here we will compare same student score on pre and post test so here we will use paired t test hence

Option (a)mean of difference t test is used

3.

Here we have to test the mean volume soda then we can use 1 sample t test )

So option (b) one sample T test is ysed
