What is the critical value of F for the following situations?

a. k = 6, N = 6 (within-subjects design)

b. k = 3, N = 10 (within-subjects design)

c. k = 4, N = 8 (within-subjects design)

Please show work, especially how you solve for the df values. Thank you.

Answer #1

level of signfiicance is not given, so i am assuming 0.05

a)

degree of freedom for numerator =k-1=6-1=5

degree of freedom for denominator =k*(n-1) =6*(6-1)=30

from excel: critical value =finv(0.05,5,30)=2.53

b)

degree of freedom for numerator =k-1=3-1=2

degree of freedom for denominator =(k-1)*(N-1) =(3-1)*(10-1)=18

from excel: critical value =finv(0.05,2,18)=3.55

c)

degree of freedom for numerator =k-1=4-1=3

degree of freedom for denominator =(k-1)*(N-1) =(4-1)*(8-1)=21

from excel: critical value =finv(0.05,3,21)=3.07
