This is a positive change because 10 years earlier we did not have machines that can handle these high dimensional data or run these (SVM, Neural Network) algorithms. We did use logistic regression but now algorithms like NN, SVM can predict better in so many situations.
Lets take an example to check wether prescribed medicines curing the cancer or not. Earlier logistic regression were used to predict. But now we can easily access high core computers which can run svm, nn and these algorithms are performing really well.
