what test should I use to determine an association between obesity status (normal weight, overweight, obese) and cardiovascular disease (CVD vs. CVD free). We know the obesity status (category) and if the do or dont have CVD

Here we can use Chi square test of independence.

There are two groups which are obesity status and cardiovascular disease.

obesity status have three levels which are normal weight, overweight and obese

cardiovascular disease have two levels which are CVD and CVD free.

The test statistic follows with (R-1)(C-1) degrees of freedoms.

where R is number of rows

C is number of columns

The test statistic is,

where O is observed frequency and

E is expected frequency

The formula for expected frequnecy is,

Suppose we want to design a new study to assess the implications of childhood obesity on poor health outcomes in adulthood. In the study we will consider total cholesterol at age 50 and incident cardiovascular disease by age 50 as the key outcomes. We will compare normal versus overweight/obese children. Assume that the standard deviation in total cholesterol is 35. a. How many normal and overweight/obese children are required to ensure that a 95% confidence interval estimate for the difference...

:  Suppose we want to design a new study to assess the implications of childhood obesity on poor health outcomes in adulthood.  In the study we will consider total cholesterol at age 50 and incident cardiovascular disease by age 50 as the key outcomes.  We will compare normal versus overweight/obese children. Assume that the standard deviation in total cholesterol is 35. You must manually calculate all parts of this problem. a.How many normal and overweight/obese children are required to ensure that a 95%...

Researchers have hypothesized that the distribution of the weight categories (underweight, normal, overweight\obese) of high school boys is changing over time. In 2006, the proportion of a large sample of high school boys was collected in 2006, resulting in the following proportions (Table 1): Table 1: Distribution of weights of high school boys 2006 Weight classification (BMI range) Proportion of high school boys Underweight (<18 kg/m2) 4.8% Normal weight (18-25 kg/m2) 80.4% Overweight/obese (>25 kg/m2) 14.7% In 2017, researchers classified...

Suppose that you are interested in investigating the association between retirement status and heart disease. One concern might be the age of the subjects: An older person is more likely to be retired, and also more likely to have heart disease. In one study, 127 victims of cardiac arrest were matched on a number of characteristics (that included age) with 127 healthy control subjects. Retirement status was then ascertained for each subject. a) Test the null hypothesis that there is...

Researchers at a cardiovascular institute are concerned about the association between exercise and hypertension among their patient population. Suppose in order to assess this relationship, the researchers conducted a cohort study where a population of 35-55 year old participants were enrolled and followed for a period of 10 years, and required to submit weekly diary submissions about their exercise routines. The researchers then conducted clinic visits where blood pressure was measured and hypertensive status was confirmed. Suppose the following table...

A nutrition expert claims that the average American is overweight. To test his claim, a random sample of 22 Americans was selected, and the difference between each person's actual weight and idea weight was calculated. For this data, we have x¯=18.2x¯=18.2 and s=29.4s=29.4. Is there sufficient evidence to conclude that the expert's claim is true? Carry out a hypothesis test at a 4% significance level. A.
