Back to the Harris county SARS-Cov2 new cases data set: Here you have two subsets of the timeline of 30 consecutive days.

  1. Do the scatterplot for these data using each of the two axes for one of these data points.
  2. The data sequences are separated by a time window exceeding 30 days. Does there seem to be an association between these data sets? Do your findings suggest anything regarding the proliferation of infections?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Let, X: first subset of Harris country SARS-Cov2 data.

Y: second subset (after 30 days of timeline) of Harris country SARS-Cov2 data.

a) Scatterplot for the two subsets.

b) To check the association between two datasets, we will check correlation between them.

corr(x,y)= cov(x,y) / (sd(x)*sd(y));

Hence, corr(x,y)= 0.639843

i.e. there is positive correlation between these two subsets.

If you observe the data, then there is continuous increase in the number of infected people. Hence, after 30days of timeline, infection has increased significantly.
