#3    Dumbledore wanted to test Snape’s theory about who has better quidditch players. A sample of n1 = 9 students form Gryffindor had an average score of M1 = 21, SS1 = 230, and a sample of n2 = 10 students from Slytherin had an average score of M2 = 17, SS2 = 200. Which test would be appropriate for this research question?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

SOLUTION-

GIVEN FOR GRYFFINDOR, SAMPLE SIZE(n_1)=9; SAMPLE MEAN(M_1)=21; SS1=230

FOR SLYTHERIN, SAMPLE SIZE(n_2)=10; SAMPLE MEAN(M_2)=17; SS2=200

NOW, THE SAMPLES ARE INDEPENDENT AND ALSO THE SAMPLE SIZE DIFFER TOO.

SO, IN ORDER TO TEST WHICH TEAM HAD BETTER QUIDDITCH PLAYERS, A TWO SAMPLE-T TEST IS PREFERABLE.

THE PREFFERED HYPOTHESIS IS,

WHERE THE POPULATION MEAN FOR FIRST SAMPLE IS AND IS THE POPULATION MEAN FOR SECOND SAMPLE.

****IN CASE OF DOUBT, COMMENT BELOW. ALSO LIKE THE SOLUTION, IF POSSIBLE.

A group of researchers wants to examine whether taking multiple practice quizzes improve scores on tests. They compare the exam scores for a sample of n1 = 12 students who took multiple practice quizzes with the test scores of a sample of n2 = 10 students who did not do any practice quizzes. Results of the study revealed that the practice quiz group had M1 = 95, SS1 = 52. The no quiz group had M2 = 92, SS2 =...
