In an effort to determine which of two manufacturing methods used by workers produces the greatest number of parts, the research department for ABC Manufacturing randomly selected six workers who make the same part and measured the six workers’ output using Method 1 and again using Method 2.   Test that the mean productivity between the two methods is the same at α=0.10. State the hypothesis in terms of Method 2 - Method 1.

Method 1    54,    59,    46,    57,    58,    50

Method 2    48,    50,    48,    46,    51,    49

An amusement park studied methods for decreasing the waiting time (minutes) for rides by loading and unloading riders more efficiently. Two alternative loading/unloading methods have been proposed. To account for potential differences due to the type of ride and the possible interaction between the method of loading and unloading and the type of ride, a factorial experiment was designed. Use the following data to test for any significant effect due to the loading and unloading method, the type of ride,...

A study of reading comprehension in children compared three methods of instruction. The three methods of instruction are called Basal, DRTA, and Strategies. Basal is the traditional method of teaching, while DRTA and Strategies are two innovative methods based on similar theoretical considerations. The READING data set includes three response variables that the new methods were designed to improve. Analyze these variables using ANOVA methods. Be sure to include multiple comparisons or contrasts as needed. Write a report summarizing your...

Many standard statistical methods that you will study in Part II of this book are intended for use with distributions that are symmetric and have no outliers. These methods start with the mean and standard deviation, x and s. For example, standard methods would typically be used for the IQ and GPA data here data215.dat. (a) Find x and s for the IQ data. (Round your answers to two decimal places.) s= Here are the numbers obs gpa iq gender...
