1- Your final grade might be A, B, C, D, or F. So, it has five possible outcomes.

a) Rewrite the outcomes of your final grade in a way to make it a Bernoulli experiment. You must define the success and failure in this experiment very well. Also, assign a number to p, which is the probability of success.

b) Define another Bernoulli experiment based on the outcomes of your grade and again assign a number to the probability of success. (So, you have one probability of success in part a and another one in part b. You can assign any number to the probability of success in each part but you should make sure that if I compare those numbers between part a and part b, they make sense.)

Answer #1

a) The grades anyone can get are A,B,C,D and F.

So now i define a random variable X such that , X has success if i get a grade A else i take the rest as failure. So the outcomes are either A or not A.

X follows bernolli distribution with p = 1/5 i.e P(A) = 1/5 and q = 1-p = P(not A) = 4/5

b) Again i define a random variable Y such that Y defines i failed. So the sucess outcome for this random variable is getting F and failure outcome is not getting F .

So outcomes are getting the grade F or not getting F.

Y follows bernoulli distribution with p = P(F) = 1/5, q = 1-p = P(not F) = 4/5

p is probability of sucess and q is the probability of failure.

Problem 1: Relations among Useful Discrete Probability Distributions. A Bernoulli experiment consists of only one trial with two outcomes (success/failure) with probability of success p. The Bernoulli distribution is P (X = k) = pkq1-k, k=0,1 The sum of n independent Bernoulli trials forms a binomial experiment with parameters n and p. The binomial probability distribution provides a simple, easy-to-compute approximation with reasonable accuracy to hypergeometric distribution with parameters N, M and n when n/N is less than or equal...

A biased coin (one that is not evenly balanced) is tossed 6 times. The probability of Heads on any toss is 0.3. Let X denote the number of Heads that come up. 1. Does this experiment meet the requirements to be considered a Bernoulli Trial? Explain why or why not. 2. If we call Heads a success, what would be the parameters of the binomial distribution of X? (Translation: find the values of n and p) 3. What is the...

This module covers Chapter 11, Section 11.1 to 11.4 and focuses on probability. One common example of probability is the daily or weekly lottery. Have you ever seen those drawings where they use ping-pong balls to select random numbers? If you calculate the chances of winning, they are pretty poor. For this week, I want you to design your own lottery and have another student assess the chances of winning. Keep it simple ... you could use dice, balls with...

#9) You are to implement the following function F(A,B,C,D,E,F) which outputs a 1 whenever the binary number represented by ABCDE is ODD and 0 otherwise. A is the MSB and E is the LSB. Draw the function F(A,B,C,D,E,F) and show the work that led you to that answer. Since I am not so sadistic as to have you draw the truth table of a 6 variable function and draw the K-map of such a function, you should realize, as a...

Conducting a Simulation For example, say we want to simulate the probability of getting “heads” exactly 4 times in 10 flips of a fair coin. One way to generate a flip of the coin is to create a vector in R with all of the possible outcomes and then randomly select one of those outcomes. The sample function takes a vector of elements (in this case heads or tails) and chooses a random sample of size elements. coin <- c("heads","tails")...
