Let be the proportion of engineering students who do not understand certain basic statistical concepts. Unfortunately, in the past this number has been high, about New content in Math2124 to improve engineering students knowledge of statistical methods has been implemented, and it is expected that under this program would decrease from 0.69. To test the hypothesis 265 engineering students in the new program were tested, and 171 did not comprehend certain basic statistical concepts. Find the large sample p-value associated with the hypothesis test. Your answer can be rounded to four decimal digit accuracy when entered

Answer #1

Solution :

This is the left tailed test .

The null and alternative hypothesis is

H0 : p = 0.69

Ha : p < 0.69

= x / n = 171 / 265 = 0.6453

P0 = 0.69

1 - P0 = 0.31

Test statistic = z

= - P0 / [P0 * (1 - P0 ) / n]

= 0.6453 - 0.69 / [(0.69 * 0.31) / 265]

= -1.57

P(z < -1.57) = 0.0582

P-value = 0.0582
