Create a set of 5 positive numbers (repeats allowed) that have median 11 and mean 8. (Enter your answers as a comma-separated list.)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Since, median = 8 , n=5 ; this implies on arranging the observations in ascending order , the 3rd observation will be 11.

_ , _ , 11 , _ , _

Mean of 5 observations = 8

Thus , sum of 5 observations = 8*5 =40

sum of 4 unknown observations = 40-11 = 29

Now, we have to choose observation in a way first 2 observations should be less than or equal to median.

And the next 2 observations to be in the way that next 2 observations should be greater than or equal to median.

Some of the possible options are as follows:

(2,5,11,11,11)

(2,4,11,11,12)

(2,3,11,11,13)

(2,2,11,11,14)
