Unit 6 [Hypothesis Testing/Decision Making]
For all Hypothesis\Decision Making Problems, please do the following:
1. Answer: Is the data
discrete or continuous?
2. List the assumptions.
3. State the null and alternate hypothesis.
4 Write down the proper test statistic, Show all calculations, i.e. impute the numbers. . Set up Decision rules. Show the critical value. Reject or Fail to reject.
5. State your conclusions.
6.1.1
According to the American Medical Association (2005), physicians in the United States work an average of 59 hours a week (s=7). A researcher wanted to check whether or not this result holds true for the current population of physicians. A random sample of 25 physicians showed that they worked an average of 55 hours per week. Assume that the number of hours worked per week by all physicians has a normal distribution. Can you conclude that the mean number of hours worked per week is different than 59 hours?
Since data is continuous because number of hours work is measurable.
