Data analysis is nothing but analysis of data. The data source can be of any type depending on type of analysis. When you can see that rigorous calculations are made on data, simply tell us mean, standard deviations, etc. then it is called data analysis. For future prediction, testing of certain hypothesis data analysis can also be used. Data analysis can easily give brief overview of any factor. For example, mean income of country can also be a kind of data analysis. In one word, operations on data to gather certain information according to need can be termed as data analysis.
