n = 500

x = 430

Level of significance = = 0.01

Point estimate = sample proportion = = x / n =430 / 500 = 0.86

This a two tailed test.

Test statistics

z = ( - ) / *(1-) / n

= ( 0.86 - 0.89) / (0.89*0.11) / 500

= -2.14

P-value = 2*P(Z<z)

= 2*P(Z <-2.14 )

=2*0.0162

= 0.0324

The p-value is p =0.0324, and since p = 0.0324 > 0.01, it is concluded that the null hypothesis is not rejected.
