10% of Amazon packages are damaged. In an effort to lower this percentage, the new packaging material is introduced. To test whether the new packaging material is successful, a random sample of 300 packages is inspected and 24 are damaged. Testing at the significance level of a= 0.5.

Find:

a. H0, Ha

b. p̂

c. Z- Value

d. P- Value

e. Conclusion (reject H0 or do not reject H0 )

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution :

This is the two tailed test .

The null and alternative hypothesis is

H0 : p = 0.10

Ha : p 0.10

= x / n = 24 / 300 = 0.08

P0 = 0.10

1 - P0 = 0.90

Test statistic = z

= - P0 / [P0 * (1 - P0 ) / n]

= 0.08 - 0.10 / [(0.10 * 0.90) / 300]

= -1.155

P(z < -1.155) = 0.124

P-value = 0.124

= 0.05

P-value >

Fail to reject the (H0).

In an effort to make children’s toys safer and more tamperproof, toy packaging has become cumbersome for parents to remove in many cases. Accordingly, the director of marketing at Toys4Tots, a large toy manufacturer, wants to evaluate the effectiveness of a new packaging design which engineers claim will reduce customer complaints by more than 10 percentage points. Customer satisfaction surveys were sent to 200 parents who registered toys packaged under the old design and 200 parents who registered toys packaged...

A drug manufacturer claims that its new drug causes faster red-cell buildup in anemic people than the drug currently used. A team of doctors tests the drug on 6 randomly selected people and compares the results with the current buildup factor of 7.1 (this is the buildup factor for the current drug). The results of the 6 peoples are (theses are red-cell buildup factors): 6.3 7.8 8.1 8.3 8.7 9.4. Test the manufacturer’s claim by stating the null and alternative...

Gun Murders - Texas vs New York - Significance Test In 2011, New York had much stricter gun laws than Texas. For that year, the proportion of gun murders in Texas was greater than in New York. Here we test whether or not the proportion was significantly greater in Texas. The table below gives relevant information. Here, the p̂'s are population proportions but you should treat them as sample proportions. The standard error (SE) is given to save calculation time...

A treadmill manufacturer has developed a new machine with softer tread and better fans than its current model. The manufacturer believes these new features will enable runners to run for longer times than they can on its current machines. To determine whether the desired result is achieved, the manufacturer randomly sampled 35 runners. Each runner was measured for one week on the current machine and for one week on the new machine. The weekly total number of minutes for each...
