Question

You have the following sample of scores. 23, 24, 20, 22, 25, 21, 28, 24, 29,...

You have the following sample of scores.

23, 24, 20, 22, 25, 21, 28, 24, 29, 28 mean = 24.4 ΣX2 = 6040 variance = 9.6

What is ΣX?

What is SS

What is the standard deviation?

What is the best measure of central tendency mean, median or mode?

Why did you choose that measure of central tendency?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. = Mean * Number of observations = 24.4 * 10 = 244.

2. Sum of squares = = 6040.

3. Standard deviation = = = 3.0984

4. The best measure of central tendency in this case is mean.

5. The dataset is more or less symmetric and no outliers are present. So, median is not the best measure. Also, the mode is 28, which lies in the upper tail and not the best representative. Hence, mean is the best measure of central tendency.
