Question 21 The weights of bags of raisins are normally distributed with a mean of 175 grams and a standard deviation of 10 grams. Bags in the upper 4.5% are too heavy and must be repackaged. Also, bags in the lower 5% do not meet the minimum weight requirement and must be repackaged. What are the ranges of weights for raisin bags that need to be repackaged? Use a TI-83, TI-83 plus, or TI-84 calculator, and round your answers to the nearest integer. Provide your answer below: Repackaging has to be done if the weights are less than grams or more than grams.

Answer #1

Mean = = 175

Standard deviation = = 10

We have given P(X > x1) = 0.045 and P(X < x2) = 0.05

We have to find values of x1 and x2.

By using the TI-84 calculator we have to find values of x1 and x2.

P(X > x1) = 0.045

P(X < x1) = 1 - 0.045 = 0.955

In IT - 84 calculator path is Click on 2ND ---------> VARS ------> invNorm( -------->

area: 0.955

: 175

: 10

Paste

We get

x1 = 191.95

P(X < x1) = 0.05

In IT - 84 calculator path is Click on 2ND ---------> VARS ------> invNorm( -------->

area: 0.05

: 175

: 10

Paste

We get

x2 = 158.55

The range is ( 158.55 , 191.95).
