Ten female and 10 male participants saw a series of words on a computer screen. Each time, a word (either relating to positive emotion or negative emotion) was presented on a screen for 1500 ms. Researchers asked participants to press the space bar on the keyboard as soon as possible if they had seen either a positive or a negative word but hold the response if they had seen a neutral word. Half of the participants from each sex group only saw positive words or neutral words; the other half from each sex group only saw negative words or neutral words. The response was reaction time in milliseconds (e.g., how long it took the subject to make a response).

Use the data presented in Tables 1-2 to complete Table 2 and perform appropriate statistical analyses to answer the question: Did the variables sex and the type of words (positive vs. negative) combined make a difference on the reaction time? If so, how? Please state the reason for your answer.

The assignment is: Next, in SPSS, run frequency distributions for each of the categorical variables and descriptive statistics for each of the continuous variables. Consider also creating a graph or chart in SPSS to describe these distributions. For variables that have very small frequencies in at least one category (e.g., less than 7 people in a category), think about combining that category with another if it makes conceptual sense (i.e., there are very few Native Americans, does it make sense...
