Response: Interval
Df Sum Sq Mean Sq F value Pr(>F)
Duration 1 39358 39358 1092 < 2.2e-16 ***
Residuals 268 9659 36

R2 is equal 0.8029409.

Question: Produce the ANOVA(Analysis of variance) table for the SLR model and interpret the results of the F-test. What is the coe cient of determination for this model and how should you interpret this summary measure?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The F statistic is MSS(duration) / MSS(Residuals)

MSS(Duration) = 39358 /1= 39358 (SS/degree of freedom)

MSS(Residuals) = 9659/268 =36

The F value = 39358 /36 = 1093

The p value is highly significant (< level of significance). Hence the null hypothesis that the duration is not signiicantly diffferent in the two groups is rejected.

The ANOVA table is as follows :

SS df MSS F Sig
Between Groups 39358 1 39358 1092.033 *****
Within Groups 9659 268 36.04104
Total 49017 269

2)The coefficient of determination is 0.8029409

This means that the Regression model is able to explain 80.29409 of the variability in the data and thus represents a good fit.
