b. What is the interquartile range?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

Given that,

a.

mean = = Xi / n

= ( 15+20+21+20+36+15+25+15) / 8

= 167 / 8

= 20.875

= 20.88

variance = =   ( Xi - )^2 / n

= ( (15-20.88)+(20-20.88)+(21-20.88)+(20-20.88)+(36-20.88)+(15-20.88)+(25-20.88)+(15-20.88))^2 / 8

= 43.86

b.

IQR = Q3 - Q1

Q1 = 1/4 ( n+1) th item

= 9/4

= 2.25

2 th item

Q1 = 20

Q3 = 3/4 (n+1)

= 27/4

= 6.75

7 th item

Q3 = 25

IQR = Q3 - Q1

= 25 - 20

= 5
