We have learned a lot about the parametric tests in this class and just scratched the surface of the nonparametric types of tests. Which type of tests do you think are the most useful in the world (Parametric or nonparametric)? Please give at least two reasons why you made your choice.

Answer #1

Non-parametric tests are more useful in the real world because of the 2 reasons listed below: -

1) Small Sample Size: - Sometime one has to deal with a small sample size because of constraints such as lack of time to collect the data or can't run experiment for long. In such cases, it's hard to ascertain the distribution of data and hence, non-parametric would be a better choice to go ahead with.

2) Ordinal or rank data :- Many of the surveys contain ordinal or rank data which makes it difficult to use the parametric techniques since it only assess continuous data and hence, non-parametric shall be the only choice in such a case.

In the last few chapters, we have learned about various selection techniques (e.g., applications, interviews, ability tests, performance tests, etc.). Think about these techniques, and address one or more of the following questions: ---Should employers use social networking websites or “googling” to screen out applicants? Why or why not? ---Should we even bother asking for references or reference letters if we are going to get little useful information from them? ---Why do some interviewers like stress interviews, or like to...

You have learned about many problems that our world is facing in Global Health. Can you discuss one issue in general that you found to be the most important one? Why do you think it’s the most important issue? And how would you solve it (e.g. if you say education, please elaborate on your answer.)

Directions: In this section, we learned about foreign policy, implementation and development. Since World War II, Presidents and the executive branch have amassed power over the United States Congress on foreign policy. Do you agree OR disagree? Why do you think this is the case? Is that a positive OR negative development? Explain in detail.

Why can’t we just look at SSreg (sum of squares regression) to decide whether to add a new variable (following the rule if SSreg gets bigger, add the new variable)? Why do you think partial tests are useful for telling us whether we should add a new variable? Please provide a detailed explanation

we learned about the National Infrastructure Protection Plan, and the many areas considered critical infrastructure in the United States. Protecting all of them is a priority, but some will, naturally, be easier to protect than others. Considering the critical infrastructure in the United States, which do you think are the easiest to protect, and why? Which are the most difficult, and why?

We have been talking a lot about specific sample statistics such as (sample) mean or (sample) variance. In principle, any quantity that characterizes (is derived from) a sample is a legitimate sample statistics (and since it depends on the sample, or in other word on a particular realization/sample drawing, this quantity is going to be a random variable itself). A sum of squares of the values in the sample, or a product of their logarithms, or simply the maximum value...

This assignment is about energy. But one of the new things we’ve just learned about is spring forces, so there should be a question about them. So some parts of this question are not about energy. One of the hard things is deciding whether you should use energy methods or not in each part. I’ll give you some help with making this decision by getting you to think about whether the system is energetically isolated. Consider a setup similar to...

In Chapter 6 we learned about many different types of Elasticity. For this discussion question we're going to practice what some of these elasticities represent. For each of the following come up an example of a good that you believe has the property listed: A good that has own-price elasticity between 0 and 1 (in absolute value) A good that has own-price elasticity larger than 1 (in absolute value). Two goods that have negative cross-price elasticity. Two goods that have...

We have talked quite a lot about comparative advantage and the benefits of free trade in this class. By focusing on producing what you produce at a lower opportunity cost in comparison to others and trading for things where you have a higher opportunity cost of producing, you can have access to more goods and services than if you tried to produce them all yourself. Another way to think about it is that by putting resources into their best use...
