Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution(a)

P(Jack) can be calculated as

In 52 standard deck card there are 4 Jack's so

P(Jack) = 4/52 = 0.0769

Solution(b)

P(Jack and diamond)

In 52 standard deck there is only 1 card which is Jack and diamond so

P(Jack and diamond) = 1/52 = 0.0192

Solution(C)

P(Jack or diamond) = P(Jack) +P(diamond) - P(Jack and diamond) = (4+13-1)/52 = 0.3077

Solution(d)

P(club or diamond)

There are 13 clubs and 13 diamonds

So P(club or diamond) = (26/52) = 0.5

Solution(e)

Both events are strange as they are not mutually exclusive and independent events.
