Answer #1

Paired t test is used when we need to check the difference between sample values before and after applying any treatment

Example : Say, you are drug manufacturer and you want to just if the drug can be used to reduce particular level of acid in a persons body.

So, you take 20 samples from population and check their acidity level and noted them

and then asked them to take the drug you manufactured for 3 months

After 3 months you check the samples of same 20 people for the acidity level and check if there is a significant reduction in acidity level because of your drug

Paired because for each sample we take a pair of information ( before, after )

Paired sample t-test: Suppose you are interested in deciding if a particular diet is effective in changing people's weight. You decide to run a "within subject" experiment. You select 6 people and weigh each of them. Two weeks and you weigh them again. For each person you compute how much weight they lose over this period. You find : Non-diet (subject 1-6): 0,8,3,2,-10,-1. You then put them on the diet and weigh them again after two weeks and compute how...
