It is clear that the same set of student is surveyed in their first year and fourth year to know whether their required programs in ethical decision-making and service learning change student perceptions.

Random samples of students were surveyed and students are independent of each other, but the two samples are dependent because same students were surveyed twice,i.e. in first year and again in fourth year

So, it is a case of dependent sample testing.

Therefore, Paired sample t test is useful in this case.
