what are type 1 error and type 2 error examples

what are type 1 error and type 2 error examples

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Type 1 error is the probability of rejecting a true null hypothesis.

Example, if calculated mean score of english in a class of 40 is 66, but a hypothesis testing indicates otherwise, i.e. the researcher rejects the null hypothesis that it's mean is 66 vs alternative that mean score is not 66. A type 1 error occurs.

Type 2 error is the probability of accepting a false null hypothesis.

On the other hand if calculated mean score is 75, but we accept the null hypothesis that it's mean is 66 vs otherwise, a type 2 error occurs.
