Describe what a type I and type II error would be for the following null hypothesis: H_0: There is no difference between steam and chemical carpet cleaning methods.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given,

H_0: There is no difference between steam and chemical carpet cleaning methods

type I error - Rejecting H_0 when it is TRUE

In this case,

Type 1 error would occur if we conclude from a test of hypothesis that, "there is difference between steam and chemical carpet" and actually or in real there is no difference between steam and chemical part.

and

type II error - Accepting H_0 when it is FALSE

Type 2 error would occur if we conclude from a test of hypothesis that, "there is no difference between steam and chemical carpet" and actually or in real there is difference between steam and chemical part.
