Suppose a standard die is rolled five times and comes up with "2" on three of the rolls.

a. What is the classical probability that it will come up "2" on the sixth roll.

b. What is the empirical probability that it will come up "2" on the sixth roll.

Answer #1
  1. Classical Probability: There are 'n' number of events and you can find the probability of the happening of an event by applying basic probability formulae. For example - the probability of getting a head in a single toss of a coin is 1/2. This is Classical Probability.
  2. Empirical Probability - This type of probability is based on experiments. Say, we want to know that how many times a head will turn up if we toss a coin 1000 times. According to the classical approach, the answer should be 500. But according to Empirical approach, we'll first conduct an experiment in which we'll toss a coin 1000 times and then we can draw our answer based on the observations of our experiment.

In Yahtzee, 5 standard dice are rolled up to three times on a given turn. A player can choose to save anywhere from 0 - 5 of the dice between rolls 1 and 2 and between rolls 2 and 3, meaning that the player can set aside certain dice before rolling the remaining dice if they choose to do so. Suppose that a given player does not take advantage of saving die rolls and instead rolls all 5 dice each...
