when conducting hypothesis tests regarding the differnce in means across two population, an important assumption is that ??

Answer #1

To test whether there is a difference between population means or not, we are going to make three assumptions:

1) The two populations have the same variance. This assumption is called the assumption of homogeneity of variance.although we can also test without having the same variances of population as wilk t test can be applied if population standard deviation in unknown.

2) The populations are normally distributed.this is the main assumption to apply parametric test.

3) Each value is sampled independently from each other value. i.e the samples are independently drawn from their population. as i think this can be an important assumption to conduct hypothesis tests regarding the differnce in means across two populations.

Hypothesis Tests for Population Means when the Standard Deviation is Known A national business magazine reports that the average age of retirement for women executives is 61.0. A women’s rights organization believes that this value does not accurately depict the current trend in retirement. To test this, the group polled a simple random sample of 95 recently retired women executives and found that they had a mean age of retirement of 61.5. Assuming the population standard deviation is 2.5 years,...

When completing a hypothesis test you are comparing the two population means. How do you write the null hypothesis? Explain how to determine, in detail, which distribution to use. Assume both distributions are normal or both n's are at least 30. When completing a hypothesis test you are comparing the two population proportions. How do you write the null hypothesis? In order to complete hypothesis test for two population proportions, what requirements need to be met?

You are conducting an experiment in which you measure two means. Your null hypothesis is that they are the same (i.e. μ1 - μ2 = 0) and your experiment will test this hypothesis with a confidence level of alpha = 0.05. You would like to be able to detect a difference in means of+/- 1 with a probability of at least 0.9. How many samples do you need to test? The standard deviations of the two groups are σ1 =...

In testing the difference between two population means when population standard deviations are unknown, there are many cases depending upon whether the two population standard deviations are equal or not. Therefore, before testing the difference between two population means, the equality of two population variances must be tested first. Which of the following is an important consideration when deciding the nature of tests to use in a financial statement audit? Tests of details typically provide a low level of assurance. The use of tests of controls should be considered without regard to the level of assurance required. Analytical procedures are an inefficient means of obtaining assurance. The procedures to be applied on a particular engagement are a matter of the auditor’s professional judgment.
