(Moore 3rd Ed. 7.25 P. 192) The Miami Police Department wants to know if residents of predominantly black neighbourhoods in Miami are satisfied with police service in their neighbourhood. A questionaire is prepared. A simple random sample (SRS) of 300 mailing addresses in such neighbourhoods is chosen, and a uniformed police officer is sent to each address to interview a resident. b. Some television stations take quick polls of public opinion by announcing a question on the air and asking viewers to call one of two telephone numbers to register their opinion as “Yes” or “No”. Telephone companies make available “900” numbers for this purpose; dialing such a number results in a small change to your phone bill. One such call-in poll finds that 73% of those who called are opposed to a proposed gun control bill.
