How can you interpret the logarithm of a number?

How can you interpret the logarithm of a number?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The logarithm of a number x to a given base b is interpreted as the inverse function to exponentiation.That means the logarithm of a number x to a given base b is the exponent to which the base b must be raised to produce the number x.

i.e.,

y = logb x

is interpreted as:

x = by

Example:

The logarithm of a number x = 64 to a given base b = 2 is interpreted as the exponent to which the base b = 2 must be raised to produce the number 64.

i.e.,

6 =log2 64

is interpreted as:

64 = 26

For the lab assignment, you are to write a function to calculate the logarithm of a number for an arbitrary base. This function should be named logAny() and it should take parameters of the number whose log you wish to calculate, and the base to be used. You may write any functions you wish to implement this program, in addition to the following functions. However, you must implement the following functions: double logAny(double x, double b) – This function returns...

question 3 Just as pH is the negative logarithm of [H3O+], pKa is the negative logarithm of Ka, pKa=−logKa The Henderson-Hasselbalch equation is used to calculate the pH of buffer solutions: pH=pKa+log[base][acid] Notice that the pH of a buffer has a value close to the pKa of the acid, differing only by the logarithm of the concentration ratio [base]/[acid]. The Henderson-Hasselbalch equation in terms of pOH and pKb is similar. pOH=pKb+log[acid][base] Part A Acetic acid has a Ka of 1.8×10−5....
