Suppose a jar contains 6 yellow marbles and 13 green marbles. If
you reach in the jar and randomly pull out 2 marbles successively
(without replacement), find the probability that both are
green.
Give your answer as a fraction, or round your
answer to 3 places after the decimal point, if
necessary.
Probability that both the marbles are green:
in first turn number of green marble is 13 and total number of marbles are = 13+6 = 19
first turn the probability of picking green marble is =13/19
Since we are picking successively without any replacement that means once a marble is taken out it isn't put back
after first turn remaining green marbles = 12, and remaining total marbles = 12+6 = 18
thus probability of picking green marble in secon turn = 12/18
Since both turns are independent
Thus probability that both are green balls = P(2 greens):
Answer : P(2 green) = 0.456
