a) what is the probability that the die is even and the card is a club?

b) what is the probability that the die is even or the card is a club?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

There, are 13 club cards in deck of 52 cards.

Therefore, P(club) = 13/52 = 1/4

There, are 3 even numbers when we rolled a fair die.

Therefore, P(even) = 3/6 = 1/2

a)

P(even AND club) = P(even) * P(club) = 1/2 * 1/4 = 1/8 = 0.125

Therefore, the probability that the die is even and the card is a club is 1/8 = 0.125

b)

P(even OR club

= P(even) + P(club) - P(even AND club)

= 1/2 + 1/4 - 1/8

= 6/8 - 1/8

= 5/8

= 0.625

Therefore, the probability that the die is even or the card is a club is, 5/8 = 0.625
