Question text Two fair dice are rolled. Let X X denote the largest value obtained on any die, and let Y Y denote the sum of the values. Find the probability of seeing X=1 X=1 and Y=2 Y=2 . Select one: a. 1/12 b. 1/34 c. 1/36

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When two fair dice are rolled then

       S = {(1,1),(1,2)...(1,6),(2,1)...(2,6)...(6,1)...(6,6)}

      n(S) = 36

Let X = largest number obtained on any dice

     Y = sum of the values

We observe that,

        A= (X=1,Y=2) = Largest value is 1 and sum of value is 2

                        ={(1,1)}

      n(A) = 1

Now, By classical definition of probability

Therefore,

          Correct Answer : (c)1/36
