How may kg of uranium would be required to supply the energy needs of the U.S. for 1 day using fission?

Answer #1

Answer.

we did not know how much energy U.S going to consume in 1 day but will clarify the things how much 1 kg of Uranium U-235 relases the energy.

energy relases in kWh in fission of 1g of uranium U-235 = 2.55 X 10^4 kWh

so by 1KG of uranium U-235 energy rrlase in fission is = 2.55 X 10^7 kWh

so it depends how much U.S averge consumption is you can calculate it with actual consumption

of energy in 1 day by U.S.

please refer the figures that i provided while calculating.

i have the figurs of 2017

U.S 1 day energy consumption in 2017 is 10715 X 10^ 6 kWh.

so Uranium needed = 10715 X10^6/2.55 X10^ 6

it is around 420kg of uranium is needed in 1 day in 2017.

Burning 20 tons of coal provides about  joules, which is approximately the annual energy requirement of an average person in the United States. If this amount of energy was provided by the electricity generated by the fission of uranium-235 in a nuclear reactor, instead, what mass of natural uranium would be required? About 0.7% of natural uranium is uranium-235 (almost all the rest is uranium-238, which does not fission like U-235 does). Assume that the fission of each U-235 atom provides...

Ok so there's fission reaction equation of uranuim-235 to produce krypton-91 and baruim-142. I think it would look like that: 235/92U +1/0n = 91/36Kr + 142/56Ba + 3 1/0n.
