I am trying to figure out how to determine what distribution these are but I am not to sure what key factors to look for.
Determine the best distribution (Binomial, Poisson, Geometric, Discrete) and why
1. A veterinary researcher is looking into use of services and they survey the pet owners in the waiting rooms with different clinics and sort the owners into to categories (has dog, and doesn't have dog). Suppose that in a random waiting room, 28 dog owners and 32 pet owners without a dog pass through in one day. From the waiting room the researcher takes a random sample of 10 people. For this one I am thinking binomial because there are two categories but I am not sure exactly.
2. A linguistics researcher is looking into accessibility of government forms. They randomly survey 385 people who indicated that they either currently or previously spoke Spanish at home on a previous intake form to see if those folks used a Spanish-language form option. Data suggests that about 59% of those who currently or previously spoke Spanish at home will use a Spanish-language form. This researcher wants to know how many of the 385 people likely used the form.
