Find the mean, median, and mode for the data on the number of sick days used for a group of employees below: Number of sick days taken in the last year Frequency 0 16 1 25 2 29 3 19 4 6 5 3 9 1

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The distribution is

Number of sick days

taken in the last year

Frequency
0 16
1 25
2 29
3 19
4 6
5 3
9 1

Now mean is given by

Mode the tha value with highest frequency

Highest frequency is 29, with corresponding value 2.

So mode is 2

Median is the value which divide the data into two equal parts.

We form the cummulative frequency table as shown

Number of sick days

taken in the last year

Frequency Cumulative frequency
0 16 16
1 25 41
2 29 70
3 19 89
4 6 95
5 3 98
9 1 99

Since and cummulative frequency gest greater than 49.5, is 70, with corresponding value 2

So Medina is 2

Let X be the random variable giving the number of sick days taken by the “typical” worker per year. Suppose that it is known that E(X) = μ = 10, and that the standard deviation of X is σ = 2. The mean number of sick days an employee takes per year is believed to be about ten. Members of a personnel department do not believe this figure. They randomly survey eight employees. The number of sick days they took for the past year are as follows: 12; 4; 15; 3; 11; 8; 6; 8. At the 0.05 significance level, test the claim of the personnel team, that the mean number of sick days per year is less than ten. Conclusion:...
