Answers to the following questions should be calculated in Matlab and given to 4 decimal places. Be careful not to introduce errors by rounding in any intermediate calculations as this may lead to an incorrect final answer.

In a certain state, 300 urban residents were surveyed and and it was found that 56 were in favour of increasing the speed limit from 100 km/h to 110 km/h. A survey of 180 rural residents from the same state was also conducted and it was found that 41 supported increasing the speed limit from 100 km/h to 110 km/h.

Let π1 be the proportion of residents in the urban population in favour of increasing the speed limit and let π2 be the proportion of residents in the rural population. Test, at the 5% level of significance, the hypothesis H0:π1=π2.

(a) Give the value of z-statistic.

__________

(b) Find the P-value.

__________

(c) Which of the following conclusions apply?

(a)

Accept H0:π1=π2

(b)

Reject H0:π1=π2.
