What is the probability of drawing a face card (jack, queen, king) on first draw and a heart on second draw?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Total Number of Cards = 52

Total Number of suits = 4

Total Number of Face Cards = 3*4 = 12

Probability of drawing a face card (jack, queen, king) on first draw = 12c1/52c1 =

C(n,r)=C(12,1)

=12!(1!(12−1)!)

= 12

Similarly, 52c1 = 52

Hence, Probability of drawing a face card (jack, queen, king) on first draw = 12/52 = 0.2307

For second draw we assume that the sampling is with replacement,

Total Number of cards remained after first draw = 52

Total number of heart cards = 13

Probability of a heart on second draw = 13c1/52c1 = 13/52 = 1/4 = 0.25
