Given the scenario that this class is comprised of ten male students and eleven female students and you are part of a five-member team, how would you respond to the following? What is the probability (if you are a female) your team is composed of all females?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Total students in the class = 10 Males + 11 Females = 21

Probability = Favorable Outcomes/Total Outcomes

Favorable outcomes: All 5 members are females including me. This means that I am definitely part of the team, and the other 4 females are chosen out of 10 (As I am already in) in 10C4 = 210 ways

Total Outcomes = All 5 member teams of which I am a part of. The other 4 are chosen from 20 in 20C4 = 4845 ways

Therefore the required probability = 210/4845 = 42/969 = 14/323 = 0.0433
