Of the following, which reflects the strength of the association between a disease and exposure?

A. Degree of statistical significance

B. Size of the relative risk

C. Frequency of the disease

D. Frequency of the exposure

E. Size of the attributable risk

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A. Degree of statistical significance

because F- ratio test is significant then we can say that the association between a disease and exposure is strength or good

F ratio = sum of square regression(SSR) / total sum of square(TSS)

SSR = ( Y hat - Y bar)^2

TSS = SSR + SSE

SSE = Sum of square error

SSE = ( Y - Y hat )^2

so, F ratio = SSR/(SSR+SSE)

or R^2 value t test is significant we can say that the association between a disease and exposure is strength or good

t test =

so, degree of statistical significance is important rather than other

A cow-calf veterinarian suspects there is an association between pasture exposure of cows to wastewater from hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) and reproductive failures (failure to conceive, abortion, etc.). She is planning a study to assess such a possibility. The initial results did not find a statistically significant association for fracking wastewater and reproductive outcomes. However, findings became statistically significant when results were separated according to feed source. Cattle fed exclusively homegrown forage and exposed to fracking wastewater had more reproductive failures...

What could you conclude if you were given the following measure of association: Relative Risk = 0.89 (95%CI: 0.76- 1.04)? a. A case-control study was used to estimate this relative risk estimate. b. The exposure is a risk factor. c. The relative risk estimate is not statistically significant. d. There is a causal relationship between the exposure and the outcome.

Effect measure modification occurs when the strength of an association varies according to the level of a third variable which is called an effect measure modifier. Confounding is the distortion of the association between an outcome of interest and an exposure because an important third variable has not been accounted for; this third variable is called a confounder.
