I wanted to know if there is a higher rate of people who drink more than 3 coffees a day in New York vs Massachusetts. I surveyed 500 people in NY and 364 people drink more than 3 cups a day. For Massachusetts, I surveyed 400 people and 223 drank more than 3 cups a day. Test my hypothesis with a level of significant of 0.05.

This data is kind of qualitative data where you know answer to wherther a person drinks more than 3 cups of coffee or not but does not know the exact cups of coffee the person drink. Thus hypothesis testing is not applicable as in qualitative research, hypotheses are not tested.

For hypothesis testing you need sample variance and sample mean, which can not be calculated here.

Collect the data as to number of cups of coffee each person drink in a day for both the cities and then we can apply hypothesis testing.
