Blood alcohol concentrations of drivers involved in fatal crashes and then given jail sentences are shown below. Find the mean, median, and mode of the listed numbers. Is there a mode?

0.28 0.17 0.17 0.16 0.13 0.23 0.30 0.23 0.14 0.16 0.11 0.16

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Mean amount of blood concentration

Sorting the values in ascending order of magnitude, we get

0.11, 0.13, 0.14, 0.16, 0.16, 0.16, 0.17, 0.17, 0.23, 0.23, 0.28, 0.30

Number of observations = 12

Median will be middlemost value of th observation and th observation.

Here,

6th observation = 0.16 and 7th observation = 0.17

Median

To find mode,

frequency of value 0.16 is = 3 which is greater than frequency of any other values.

So, mode = 0.16

A researcher wishes to estimate the average blood alcohol concentration (BAC) for drivers involved in fatal accidents who are found to have positive BAC values. He randomly selects records from 75 such drivers in 2009 and determines the sample mean BAC to be 0.17 g/dL with a standard deviation of 0.060 g/dL. All areas of the country use a BAC of 0.11 g/dL as the legal intoxication level. Is it possible that the mean BAC of all drivers involved in...

When constructing a table representing the frequency distribution of blood alcohol content (g/dL) of drunk drivers involved in fatal car crashes, the first two classes of a frequency distribution are 0.08–0.11 and 0.12–0.15.  The first class described has a frequency of 36. If you know only the class limits given in Exercise 1 and the frequency of 36, can you identify the original 36 data values? Yes or No? The class limits from exercise 1 are the following: 0.075 and 0.115

MTH 241 COMMON DATA ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT (Fall 2018) Previous studies have shown that urban bus drivers have an extremely stressful job, and a large proportion of drivers retire prematurely with disabilities due to occupational stress. These stresses come from a combination of physical and social sources such as traffic congestion, incessant time pressure, and unruly passengers. In the paper, “Hassles on the Job: A Study of a Job Intervention with Urban Bus Drivers” (Journal of Organizational Behavior, Vol. 20, pp....
