What is true about hypothesis testing?

1. Hypothesis testing is exactly the same as mathematical proof.

2. The level of significance has no impact on the outcome of a hypothesis test

3. Hypothesis testing is a procedure based on sample evidence & probability theory to determine whether the hypothesis is a reasonable statement.

4. All are true.

Answer #1

Option 3 is correct because in hypothesis testing,we want to decide whether a statement is correct or not on the basis of sample data using the tool probability.

So,it is not a mathematical proof as even we accept the statement on the basis of a sample data,it may not be acceptable on the basis of another sample data. That is,the statement is not true for all possible sample data.

In hypothesis testing,we set the probability of rejecting the correct null hypothesis is equal to level of significance. So,if we change the value of level of significance, the decision(rejection or acceptance) about the statement will also change. So,option 2 is also incorrect.
